Whale Watching in Boston?

I'm going to Boston August 23 to 26. My family and I were thinking about going whale watching. Is this the time of the year for whale watching? Does anyone know any good inexpensive tours? please help. Thank you!!

Tours run regularly from Boston and Gloucester, and other coastal towns. I haven't been back to Boston for a while, but tours that I checked were all about $35 per person; probably a bit more now. I've been on several, and they're all very similar. I got some fantastic photographs on one run to Stellwagen Bank in midsummer, so I'd say that it is a good time. If you have not been at sea before, you might consider a tour of the islands in Boston Harbor (departs from a dock beside the Aquarium). It's interesting (you can visit a Civil War fortress and other things), and you have a fair chance to find out if you're liable to be seasick. A whalewatching tour is a terrible way to discover that you are; they don't turn back if you start feeling ill. Or be sure to take some dramamine with you.

The cruises do operated during this time of year. Whales migrate from warmer waters to Stellwagen Bank (off the tip of Cape Cod) to feed during the summer.

There are whale watching cruises that depart from Boston. I haven't priced them, but my guess is that they all charge about the same price - that's how a competitive market works.

However, if you have the time to travel to Provincetown, you may find that the whale-watching cruises will be less expensive - simply because the departure point is closer to where whales feed.

yes august is a good time to go– the New england Aquarium does tours and so does Boston harbor cruises–all companies charge about the same (40 bucks or so)

Yes, it is a good time to see them. The tours are very expensive.

The tours that depart from Provincetown spend more time near where the whales are, (but it takes a long time to get to Provincetown)
