The Reason Why People Volunteer In Africa
The volunteering experience is growing every year with more and more people turning away from university due to the hike in prices and the job market being so competitive at the moment. Many people now believe that they need to gain more worthwhile 'life experiences' if they are to put anything on their CV that is going to standout. With the employment industry being a fraught as ever, many people have taken this opportunity to do something a little extra to make their CV stand out from the rest. This is no easy task but a lot of people are adopting the concept of volunteering abroad whilst on their gap year.
Volunteering abroad is a concept that was developed in the 1990's where projects were few and far between and nobody really too much about it. These days volunteering is big business with companies all over the world offering different work and travel packages to students and people looking for a career break. If your thinking, why should i work on my gap year, I’m supposed to be having fun, then you need to understand that you do get time off to take the opportunity to go on an Kenya safari or a safari in South Africa.
Volunteer projects vary from working in HIV/AIDS outreach centres to working on game reserves as a conservationist. Depending on your area of work interest and where it is you want to travel there are a vast array of projects you can combine your Zambia safari with. Working abroad will not only give you experience in a different field but it will also broaden your horizons. Travelling to Africa to work will help you develop as a person and in many cases it allows you to figure out what it is you want to do with your life.
A typical project could include teaching local children in Tanzania English or working at a feeding centre that looks after orphaned children. Whilst doing that you also get the chance to climb Kilimanjaro should you be feeling adventurous enough. Having a life experience like this under your belt will not only put you head and shoulders above the rest of the other job candidates but it will also put you in favour with the employer who knows you are willing to work for free to gain a life experience.
