Locating A U S Passport Office Is An Easy Task

Anyone that is looking to take an international trip better get ready to get in line at their local US passport office if they don’t already have a passport. Finding an office is not difficult, especially with the help of the Internet. A surprise for many is that their local post office also serves as a passport processing center.

There is simply no way to get around having to apply person for the first time US passport applicant. Every form has to be filled out, every i dotted and every t crossed. In addition to all of the forms, there is very specific documentation that must be brought in for the application to be accepted.

National Security has been dramatically increased ever since 9/11. Believe it or not, the government actually tries to make this process as easy as possible as there are quite a few local passport offices where the process can be completed. There really is no need to travel a great distance in order to get the application completed and submitted.

Often times, passport application offices are inside local government offices. A passport application center may be located in the local post office, public library, clerks of court office, or any other local, state, or federal office building. Most people do not have a hard time finding an office that is convenient for them.

Because there is the need to get a passport photo, it is important to check to see if the local office is capable of providing this service. This is not part of the fee structure and there will be a separate charge. While many of the passport offices do have this capability, some of the smaller ones do not and the photos will have to be obtained before ever heading over there to turn everything in.

There are times, however, when a person will still have to head to a regional office in order to get their passport. This is generally an exception and will only need to be done when the passport is needed in a shorter time frame than the standard services. Regional offices are located in major cities across the United States are all listed on the State Department website.

Passport renewals do not need to be filed in person, so anyone renewing a passport does not need to go to a passport center. However, replacing a lost passport is treated like applying for a new passport, so anyone that has lost a passport will need to find a passport center. Passport centers are usually least crowded mid-morning.

Everyone that applies for a first time new passport needs to visit a U S passport office. The best way to find a nearby passport center is perform a zip code search on the Department of State website. Although this seems like a tedious and time-consuming process, it is in the interest of national security, and only needs to be done once provided the passport is never lost. Waiting in line at a passport center is a small price to pay for international travel.
