It Is Winter, How Much Better It Would Be To Be Lying At The Beach
So many people dread the onset of winter with it's promise of snow, messy driving conditions, and of course the cold weather. For others, this truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Time to strap the skis on the roof, pull the warmest winter coat out of storage, and hit the slopes. Whether a person is an expert who heads directly to the black diamonds, or a novice who prefers the bunny slope, both are sure to have a great time with the wind and snow blowing against their cheeks.
Safety while skiing is extremely important. This means that people should always be courteous to other skiers. Clearly this means exercising caution and yielding the right-of-way to small children, elderly people, and well, people who clearly just do not know what they are doing. Many ski areas have instituted new policy which requires all people to wear a ski helmet. This is absolutely necessary for children, however an adult who has an accident will fare much better if they are wearing one as well.
Anyone who has ever been skiing knows that these people can really be to some crazy things. Imagine a grown man dressed all in red coming down the hill dressed as Santa Claus, complete with the beard. Or how about the people that ride a motorcycle in the summer and ski in the winter, but wear the same outfit for both. Then there are the folks who apparently roll out of bed and head right to the hill, because they are wearing sleepwear. That is right, pajamas. It is quite amusing. The craziest of all of the ones that you see spring skiing. It is hard to imagine, but people really do come down the hill in bikinis, brrr.
Yes indeed, winter time can be joyful to many folks. Sledding, building snowmen, ice sculptures, drinking cocoa by the fire, and so much more make this a winter carnival.
Ah, but lying on the beach, under an umbrella, with a cool drink, what could be better? Kids playing Frisbee, and building sand castles. Just thinking about it makes one smell the salty ocean air, the fried clams, and the wonderful fragrance of cocoa butter. This is the place for the shorts and bikinis. Yes indeed, the good old summer time is the best.
Suddenly reality flashes back, as the radio announcer says, 'well folks we can expect another six inches of snow by tomorrow morning'. Terrific, is this not what we have all been waiting for? Well, actually no. Looks like it is time get the shovels back out, bundle the kids up, start scraping ice, and pretend while looking at the new Ladybug baby bedding, that those ladybugs are real. One can almost feel the warm spring breeze.
But, sadly it is winter. How much better it would be to be lying on a blanket at the beach.
