Africa Is Possible Even With A Shoestring Budget

Travelling anywhere on a shoestring budget is a wonderful way to see a top class destination without paying an arm and a leg for it. Whilst travelling anywhere in style most certainly has it's perks, you definitely don't need to pay through the roof for the experience of a lifetime. It only takes a little bit of know-how to plan the safari you have always dreamed of. When you've decided on making a trip to Africa then ensure that you keep the following factors in mind before you book.

1. Planning is your key to success

Before you do anything else it's important that you decide what your budget is. Decide how much it is you want to spend on your trip and remember to factor in safari costs, living costs and activity costs. Lets be honest if you are planning a budget trip to Africa then it's highly unlikely you are going to be climbing kilimanjaro since it costs around $1000 per person for the hike. Once you have noted how much you can spend then it's time to look for activities within your price range.

2. How are you going to get around?

This is where you may have to give the luxury tours a miss. A luxury safari in the Tarangire National Park is off the cards I’m afraid, but don't worry as there are so many other safari options available to you at a much more reasonable price. Booking a budget safari usually means the accommodation that comes with the safari will be budget as well, usually in the form of small tented camps around the National Park or Game Reserve.

3. Africa is not always cheap, Remember that!

Africa is considered by many to be quite cheap in comparison to the rest of the world, and their not wrong, everywhere is cheap apart from the tourist areas. The majority of local traders will hike up the prices of their goods knowing full well that tourists will still buy them. One problem many tourists face is the unfamiliarity with the local currency meaning they often get over charged for goods they could buy cheaper at home. One thing everyone needs to do when travelling on a budget is to resist the urge to buy curios. The chances of you actually using them when you go back home are very slim anyway.

4. Pick & choose your destination carefully

Ultimately it will be the cost of safaris and accommodation which will determine the destination for you but whether you choose to  do some Namibia travel or whether you choose to travel to the Masai Mara on safari, just ensure you have done your research before you travel so you don't encounter anything unexpected when you are away.
